“Andrew Coates has the vision, intellect, and experience to make an excellent Regent for the Higher Education System in Nevada.”

Thank you so much for checking out my campaign website!
Early in my academic career, I had the opportunity to gain deep insight into how a higher education system is run. While a student at the University of California, Davis, I served on the Chancellor's Advisory Board as well as the Executive Committee for the Dean of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. I took these roles seriously and my work was recognized when UC Davis nominated me as its candidate for Student Regent for the University of California Board of Regents.
When I came to UNLV for law school and business school, my enthusiasm for higher education was stronger than ever. I was elected to the law school student government in my first semester and worked as a liaison between the student government and the law school administration.
After I earned my law degree and Master of Business Administration, I was elected to the Board of Directors of the Boyd Law Alumni Association. To top it all off, I am also on the School Board of my elementary school alma mater!
All this culminated to my work as the Chair of the American Chemical Society of Southern Nevada. In this role I worked to encourage Nevadan students to study science in Nevada and pursue scientific careers in Nevada. This position has given me the opportunity to work with faculty, students, and administrators at different campuses in the Nevada System of Higher Education, and I have learned of the issues that face our higher education system and what possible solutions we can pursue to ensure that our system is united in working toward academic excellence and accessibility.
I will be a Regent who understands the perspectives of students, faculty, and administrators, and will work to find common ground between the interested parties of our higher education system. Furthermore, I promise to be a good steward of tax-payer dollars.
In short, I believe I can offer a fresh, yet experienced, perspective on the Board of Regents.
